How impact glass works
Impact (laminated) glass
Laminated means two lites of glass with a tough interlayer in between. If the glass cracks, it stays put in the frame.
PVB — Polyvinyl Butyral. The standard architectural interlayer.
SGP — Ionoplast interlayer. Bonded directly between two layers of glass for superior protection. The rigid interlayer minimizes deflection.
Low-E glass
It's an invisible coating on the glass that lets the daylight in but bounces a lot of the sun's heat and UV back outside. You keep the view, and your AC doesn't work as hard.
Insulated laminated glass
It's the same laminated impact glass that holds together in a storm, plus a sealed air space and one more pane of glass. That air space slows heat coming in and helps keep outside noise out, so the house stays cooler and quieter.
